Food & Body Issues

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

Food & Body Issues

It’s hard not to have an unhealthy relationship to our bodies and food given the mixed messages of the media, medicine, and social pressures. You may find yourself obsessing about food, overcome with cravings, eating just to eat rather than for hunger; or perhaps you are always on a diet, worried about your appearance, hating your body, denying yourself meals or limiting your food intake to a few very specific permitted foods. Counseling can help by refocusing unhealthy thoughts about food and body to ones that are more realistic and supportive of your emotional health. Debunking myths about perfect bodies, developing exercise and eating habits that provide the energy you need, and, when necessary, digging deeper for the experiences that have given rise to using food for emotional needs are all paths to a more balanced approach to healthy bodies.
